Qualifications:

1. Appropriate State of Ohio certification & Background check
2. High school graduate or equivalent
3. 18 years of age or more
4. Demonstrate a sincere desire to aid all students
5. High moral character and good attendance record
6. Demonstrate aptitude for successful completion of tasks assigned


General Description: Assist the classroom teacher with teaching and non-teaching functions.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Work with students individually and in small groups. 
  1. Aide students with their tasks, read to students, conduct activities that work to  maintain previous teaching.
  1. Help students move from one activity to another in the classroom.
  1. Assist with seatwork.
  1. Assist with supervision of youngsters at recess, restroom breaks, and so forth.
  1. Help children with programmed materials.
  1. Assist teacher with checking of individual skills of children.
  1. Play learning games.
  1. Assist students who were absent to make up work.
  1. Promote good social relationships between children.
  1. Respond to students in a kind, fair, and interested manner.
  1. Explain school rules to children.
  1. Aide students with getting in and out of wearing apparel and footwear.
  1. Prepare materials for class projects.
  1. Assist in maintaining bulletin boards.
  1. Prepare masters for copying.
  1. Copy materials for class.
  1. Grade papers.
  1. Distribute communiqués to be sent home with the children.
  1. Compile and maintain inventory records.
  1. Give medication to children.
  1. Take daily attendance and lunch count;  collect lunch and milk money.
  1. Supervise general housekeeping duties.
  1. Make school-related non-confidential telephone calls for the teacher.
  1. Assist the teacher in supervision of various classroom activities, field trips, and so forth.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
  1. Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.

  2. Conduct other related educational assistant duties as assigned by the principal and/or local superintendent and as permitted by the negotiated agreement.

 

Additional Working Conditions:

  1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
  2. Occasional interaction among unruly children.
